Riot Games has introduced an 'on-demand' execution feature for its anti-cheat system, Vanguard.

Philip Koskinas, the lead of Riot's anti-cheat division, took to the company's official website on the 24th to discuss the state of cheaters and the future roadmap for Vanguard. Most notably, he confirmed the arrival of an 'on-demand' mode, which allows the system to boot up only when you actually launch the Riot client.

Previously, Vanguard would automatically start the moment you turned on your PC, regardless of whether you were playing a Riot game. Since its debut in 2020, this kernel-level access has been a lightning rod for controversy, with many users expressing concerns over how deep it accesses their systems. It also faced criticism regarding compatibility, as it occasionally blocked programs unrelated to cheating.

The 'on-demand' functionality went live on the 24th. To take advantage of this, you must be running Windows 11 25H2 or newer, and your system must have UEFI Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, VBS, HVCI, and IOMMU enabled.
