The first-ever remake in the Assassin's Creed series, 'Assassin's Creed Black Flag Rethinked', has entered the top tiers of Steam's global charts just a week before its official launch.

As a reimagining of the series' fourth installment, this title once again follows the journey and maturation of Edward Kenway. While it retains the core DNA of what many consider the benchmark for pirate-themed gaming, the developer has polished the overall experience using a modern game engine.

By integrating the latest Anvil engine, the game offers a significant visual overhaul alongside a dynamic weather system. The stealth mechanics have been updated, allowing players to crouch—a feature ported from the recent Assassin's Creed Shadows—and dive for more covert movement. Furthermore, the frustration of failing tailing missions has been mitigated by removing the 'restart from scratch' requirement, while combat feels more impactful with refined takedowns and parrying mechanics.

The sea combat and navigation systems, the very heart of the experience, have seen a massive expansion. The world is now a seamless, load-free open environment. To improve convenience, the developer added on-water pathfinding and an auto-navigation feature. Players can now use secondary fire modes for all weaponry, and by recruiting new lieutenants, players can unlock unique abilities like perfect parries or ramming charges. Weather, too, acts as a volatile variable, with waterspouts and lightning strikes capable of dealing direct damage. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Rethinked is set for release on July 9 and features full Steam Deck compatibility.

Elsewhere on the charts, Diablo 4 has slipped out of the top rankings. It seems the current trend of discounted titles dominating the charts is likely to persist for a while.

In the daily peak Concurrent Players top 20, Metcha Chameleon saw a slight dip to 190,580, sliding to 5th place. Meanwhile, the Enhanced version of GTA 5 reached 91,654 Concurrent Players, finally overtaking the legacy version to claim the 20th spot.
