After scalpers created a bit of a nuisance in Japan, necessitating a production run to meet demand, the retro-inspired plush based on the 'Pokémon Red and Green' era monochrome pixel-art Pikachu is finally heading to South Korea for an official release.

Pokémon Store Online announced via its official X account on the 13th that it will launch the 'Starting Pikachu'. Arriving on August 18 at 6:00 PM, the 'Starting Pikachu' faithfully captures the original proportions and graphical quirks of the Pikachu encountered in the Game Boy classics, Pokémon Red and Green.

The design leans heavily into that nostalgic, stubby-limbed, and delightfully rotund aesthetic. Furthermore, the pixelated features—including the eyes, nose, mouth, and the distinct back markings—have been meticulously rendered to reflect the charming blurring and colour contrast inherent to 8-bit sprites. The release will consist of two versions: one plush doll and one mascot keychain.

The 'Starting Pikachu' will be available for purchase through the Pokémon Store Online and the Pokémon Naver Brand Store, with a strict limit of one per person.
