Managing character stress in Darkest Dungeon is a headache, but it is precisely that demanding, immersive loop that kept players coming back for more. Now, a brand new DLC is set to drop on August 19.

Red Hook Studios released the launch trailer for the new DLC, 'The Fire's Edge', via their official YouTube channel on the 18th. The release is confirmed for August 19, and the studio has confirmed that, just like the base game, it will officially support Korean subtitles. The core of this update is the arrival of the Runaway and the Duelist—two characters from Darkest Dungeon 2—making their way into the original game. The Runaway acts as a damage dealer who inflicts burn damage over time, while also packing some nifty position-shifting and support skills. As for the Duelist, the character wields a rapier and can switch between offensive and defensive stances to keep combat fluid.

Along with the new characters, the Runaway's 'Burn' combat mechanic is being introduced. You will also find new trinket mechanics—featuring limits on use counts, expedition limits, and growth-based systems—along with three new estate facilities: the Duelist School, the Workshop, and the Archaeological Dig Site.

The Fire's Edge marks the first Darkest Dungeon DLC to arrive in six years, dating back to 2020. With the developers revisiting the original title after the release of the sequel, many are watching closely to see what the team decides to do next.
