Crytek's Hunt: Showdown 1896 has climbed to the very top of the global Steam charts, fueled by a hefty discount and the kickoff of its fresh Blood Testament event. The launch of a brand-new DLC featuring a Joseon scholar as a hunter has also certainly caught our eye.

Kicking off on September 8, the Blood Testament event is a community-wide collaborative campaign. As players rack up points by slaughtering foes and interacting with Blood Wells scattered across the map, fresh in-game goodies unlock sequentially whenever milestones are smashed. Throw in a chunky 60 percent discount, and you have got a pretty solid recipe for a sudden surge in the charts.

Update 2.9 brings the Blood Moon phase to the table. During the intense crimson-hued Blood Moon phase, monster aggression and speed crank right up, while a murky, cloud-draped variant restricts vision while keeping monster behavior relatively normal. On top of that, a six-round pump-action shotgun and high-velocity ammo have been introduced. Other gear and consumable balances have been tweaked alongside UI quality-of-life upgrades and a temporary matchmaking rating reduction system to welcome back returning players.

Alongside this, the new Sage of Joseon DLC is dropping. This expansion lets players step into the shoes of Cho Byung-hak, a wandering sage hunter inspired by scholars of the Joseon Dynasty. The lore goes that Cho Byung-hak arrived in the US as part of a diplomatic mission, only to catch wind of the plague rumours and join the hunter ranks instead. Sporting a traditional gat and a theatrical mask, the character wields a mother-of-pearl plum blossom-decorated pistol and a bow as primary weapons, while also tossing crane-emblazoned dynamite. The new DLC is scheduled to launch around 10:00 PM on September 9.

Elsewhere, the fully released Halloween: The Game has dethroned Wardogs to snatch the number one spot, though an influx of reviews has dragged its user rating down just a tad. Wardogs continues to drum up interest by steadily dropping fresh info, while Onimusha: Way of the Sword is seeing its reviews slowly creep upward.

Over in the daily peak Concurrent Players top 20, Taskbar Hero leaped up to 11th place with 105,883 players following a beefy content update that brought a brand-new region. That being said, user sentiment refuses to bounce back fully, especially since a bug where chests fail to spawn popped up right after the update. Meanwhile, Dead by Daylight reeled in 76,090 players to snag 20th place, largely thanks to the 10.1.2 patch which injected the Xenomorph as a fresh killer into the 2v8 mode.
