Look, let's be honest, Hideo Kojima—the mastermind universally known for the Metal Gear series—is making a rather cheeky special appearance in the Netflix animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

CD Projekt Red took to X to announce that the director will reprise the very same role portrayed in Cyberpunk 2077. The character in question is Hideyoshi Oshima, the Japanese director players previously bumped into near the bar in Konpeki Plaza within the game.

Sharing photos from the recording session on X, Hideo Kojima stated, "I am making a cameo appearance in this new anime series, reprising the role of Hideyoshi Oshima from the previous game." In the original game, the director delivered lines about using braindances—the universe's memory-exploration tech—to recreate complex, raw emotions and weave them into a better story.

Much like its predecessor, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is set in Night City, though it serves as a sequel focusing on the narratives of a completely fresh cast of characters. This series dives deep into human tales of vengeance and redemption. Studio Trigger's signature breakneck action and vivid colour palette bring to life a dark narrative of lost humanity, revenge, and madness-driven edgerunners. The four protagonists leading the charge are 'Weak', 'D', 'Roman', and 'Thalia'.

Meanwhile, aside from cameo gigs, the director is currently knee-deep in developing two brand-new video games. The first project is the action-adventure stealth game Physint, starring actor Bill Skarsgård. The second is the horror game OD, being crafted in collaboration with film director Jordan Peele. Neither title has a confirmed release date just yet, mate.
