The Nexon Foundation is stepping up to address a significant gap in medical care by supporting the nation's first home-based rehabilitation project for children with disabilities.

The foundation is providing an initial fund of 300 million KRW to support the 'Mobile Rehabilitation Project' run by the Daejeon-Sejong-Chungnam Nexon-sponsored Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital.

This 'Mobile Rehabilitation Project' is the first public-led program in the country where medical staff visit homes or schools to treat children with severe disabilities who struggle to reach the hospital due to mobility issues or caregiver burnout.

Unlike adult home care, services for children lack medical insurance reimbursement, making them notoriously unprofitable. Consequently, many severely disabled children have been left without access to basic treatment rights.

Since opening its doors in May 2023, the Daejeon-Sejong-Chungnam Nexon-sponsored Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital has served over 73,000 patients, boasting a 99% satisfaction rate as of last year.

Looking beyond the hospital walls, they identified the plight of children unable to visit due to environmental constraints. After conducting two pilot programs last year, they saw tangible benefits: improved physical function in children, better social interaction, emotional relief for caregivers, and a more stable treatment infrastructure.

Encouraged by these results and the clear demand from the front lines, the Nexon Foundation decided to extend its backing to ensure this vital service continues to grow.

Starting next January and running through December, the project will provide approximately 20 home-based rehabilitation sessions to 22 children and adolescents with severe disabilities who cannot easily visit the hospital.

With this funding, the hospital plans to bolster its dedicated team and equipment. The program covers everything from joint movement and mobility training to caregiver education, alongside emotional support and leisure activities for the families.

Nexon Foundation Chairman Kim Jung-wook remarked, "This project is a meaningful example of a public hospital fulfilling its social duty with private sector support. We remain committed to building an environment where children receive timely care."

Hospital Director Yang Shin-seung added, "Home-based rehabilitation is essential for both the children and their families. We hope this initiative serves as a catalyst for institutionalizing medical support for severely disabled children, and we will do our utmost to ensure they receive care without barriers."
