Look, let's be honest: the 'Doormaker,' that Act 3 boss in Slay the Spire 2 who has been catching flak for its frankly unfair patterns, has been sent to the chopping block. Despite the team listening to feedback, the recent user sentiment has dipped to 'Mixed.'
The 0.105.0 beta patch, pushed on May 9, saw the removal of the aforementioned 'Doormaker' and a shift in the update cadence. Taking its place is a new boss, 'Aeonglass.' Furthermore, the update schedule has been stretched from weekly to bi-weekly. The developers admitted that the weekly grind was pushing them to the brink, stating the change is intended to ensure higher quality and provide more breathing room for absorbing player feedback.
Character balancing and quality-of-life adjustments were also on the cards. The 'Defect,' widely considered a bit lacklustre compared to its peers, has received a substantial power boost: the damage of 'Shatter Beam' has been buffed, and the 'Shatter' card now triggers all orbs twice. Additionally, an early version of a 'Bestiary' has been added, and they’ve ironed out those pesky crashes and calculation errors that were plaguing Steam Deck and controller users.
Even with such significant changes, the player base remains lukewarm. While the boss swap and Defect buffs were welcomed, many are fretting that the shift to a two-week patch cycle might slow down the pace of bug squashing and new content drops during this Early Access phase.

Setting aside the internal balancing efforts, there is another, rather external hurdle impacting the ratings. Regardless of the gameplay tweaks, news that critic Anita Sarkeesian participated as a development consultant has triggered a wave of review bombing from dissatisfied players.
Meanwhile, in the upper echelons of Steam’s global top sellers, the new release Everything is Crab, which launched on the 8th, is making waves. Sporting pixel art and roguelike mechanics centred on biological evolution, it’s currently sitting at 'Very Positive.' Forza Horizon 6 has held the top spot for six days running, while Baldur's Gate 3 has climbed to 5th place.
