Studiobside has officially pulled the plug on its subculture RPG, CounterSide.

The news broke on the 17th via the game's official website. In a heartfelt notice, CEO Ryu Geum-tae reflected on the journey: "CounterSide first graced the world in February 2020, and every moment spent with our many CEOs (players) remains a truly cherished memory." He continued, "It is with a heavy heart that, after deep internal deliberation, we have reached the conclusion that it is time to pause the story for a while."

The final curtain falls on August 26th at 3:00 PM. Effective the 17th, all in-app purchases and app downloads have been suspended. The official community, customer support, and social media channels will also shutter on September 30th at 3:00 PM. Furthermore, 'Strega', the themed cafe run directly by Studiobside, is set to cease operations on June 28th at 5:30 PM.

Ryu was quick to clarify that this isn't the absolute end, noting, "The story of CounterSide does not end here." He teased a return in the form of a 'reboot project.' He added, "In this reboot, we intend to examine the fundamental flaws of CounterSide, deeply contemplate the identity required for a hard-boiled urban fantasy, and present the results to you."

Launched in February 2020 as a subculture RPG, CounterSide initially made waves with Nexon as its publisher. While it faced criticism over art consistency and shaky management early on, its robust storytelling and compelling character designs kept it afloat for six years. However,updates were halted back in April,and now, the game is officially walking the final path toward service termination.
