Overwatch is set to overhaul its Battle Pass system in the upcoming Season 4. The plan is to offer a more streamlined path to nabbing your desired skins and finally provide a way to get your hands on those elusive cosmetics from the past.

Chris McCabe, Product Director at Blizzard, took to the official Overwatch website on the 11th to outline the new Battle Pass direction. Currently, the pass is a linear 80-tier grind that everyone trudges through in the exact same order. However, the future sees those 80 tiers split into five distinct tracks, letting you prioritise the rewards you actually want.

The logic is simple: once you complete the introductory track and secure the Legendary cosmetic, you pick one of the five tracks. Each track yields either a Legendary or Hero-grade skin. Your hard-earned Battle Pass XP applies to your chosen track, and once you finish one, you simply move on to the next. Clear all five, and you earn a Prestige title.

McCabe explained that the total tier count remains unchanged, and no, you won't need to put in more hours to finish it. The focus is entirely on player agency. If you are a support main, you can prioritise the track containing the Brigitte skin to grab it faster. You can even swap active tracks at your leisure, McCabe noted.

For those who opt for the premium Battle Pass, there is a feature called 'Tier Hacking' to unlock legacy skins. It essentially allows you to swap the final skin of a track for a legendary skin from past shops or loot boxes. Season 4 will offer 12 fan-favourite legendary skins, with the list rotating each season. McCabe added that if the standard Battle Pass skins don't tickle your fancy, 'Tier Hacking' lets you swap them for something you actually like.

Beyond the pass, Season 4 kicks off on August 12th with a wealth of new content. This includes the second Korean hero, 'D.Mon', an in-game event titled 'Shooting Star: My MEKA Mania!' highlighting the entire MEKA squad, a revamped Busan map, the 'Team Drive' feature where winning team compositions stick together for the next match, and a new Mythic Genji skin.
