A boomer shooter with a concept seemingly made out of cardboard has landed on Steam.

PAPERHEAD is an FPS launched on the 10th. Players wake up in an abandoned research facility following an explosion, left to fight off cardboard test subjects. Along the way, players must investigate why bleeding occurs in a cardboard world and uncover the secrets hidden beneath.

Combat is built around chaotic melee engagements and physical impacts. Players can utilize indirect methods like leaping onto the heads of enemies or engage in direct firepower battles by blasting targets with a shotgun. In particular, active use of kicks allows for dynamic actions, such as pushing away smaller enemies or launching barrels filled with explosives. The appearing enemies are monsters seemingly drawn onto cardboard, bearing unmistakable traces of experimentation like surgical scars and deformed human bodies.

Key equipment includes firearms such as pistols, machine guns, and shotguns, alongside a pencil with symbols carved into the surface. Notably, the pencil possesses the ability to draw and create explosives, which can then be kicked into enemy territory. There are also functions to actively alter the surrounding terrain, such as drawing a virtual doorway and smashing through it to break through. With heavy usage, the pencil becomes blunt and must be sharpened with a razor blade before it can be used again.

As the game progresses, several giant bosses make their appearance. These entities boast bizarre bodies—such as razor blades attached to both arms or forms composed of eyes and flesh—and pressure players in distinct ways. True to a boomer shooter, quick and frantic movement is essential, all while maintaining the skill to accurately target enemies. Defeating them gradually unveils the grim and brutal secrets tucked away within the facility.
