The mountain-climbing game Peak is getting a fresh update. With the arrival of a new Mesa biome patch, the game has officially smashed its all-time peak concurrent players record.

The 1.20a patch, which dropped on the 12th, introduces the Mesa—a flat-topped terrain typically found in arid climates. This new biome in Peak is exactly what you'd expect: a scorching, sandy wasteland complete with sandstorms. To help you survive the heat, the developers have added items like parasols and sunscreen, alongside new gear such as balloons, scout cannons, aloe vera, and sticks of dynamite.

Peak has been turning heads since its debut. After hitting 110,000 concurrent players in just two weeks, the latest update pushed that number to a new high of 135,536 concurrent players. The community reception has been equally warm, with user reviews currently sitting at 'Very Positive' (2,161 reviews, 92% positive).

The developers have also considered those with arachnophobia, adding a specific mode that hints at the inclusion of insects within the Mesa environment. Other balance tweaks include slower fog emergence in tropical jungles and a faster reduction in burn status. Note that the Mesa biome will replace high-altitude zones for one week, after which it will start rotating randomly with those high-altitude areas.
