With Battlefield 6 stirring up the pot via its open beta, the Call of Duty camp has decided to plant its flag firmly in the ground, dropping release details and a deep dive at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

Activision took to the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live on the 20th to confirm that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is slated for a November 14 release. The narrative jumps a decade into the future to 2035, pitting players against 'The Guild,' a high-tech paramilitary syndicate armed with drones and mind-control tech. David Mason, a familiar face from Black Ops 2, returns to lead the charge. Knowing that Raul Menendez is involved, David joins the fight, operating alongside his JSOC team.

The headline feature here is the series' first-ever 4-player co-op campaign. Whether you prefer to go it alone or assemble a squad of four, you can tackle missions across locales ranging from Angola to Los Angeles, Alaska, and Tokyo. Once the main campaign wraps, the end-game content unlocks, allowing up to 32 players to navigate various maps and difficulty tiers. Grinding through these stages nets you Operator XP to unlock new abilities, and yes, your campaign efforts now contribute to your Battle Pass progression.

Multiplayer is bringing back the classic 6v6 modes, but the real talk is the 20v20 Skirmish mode, where five squads of four work in tandem. Expect plenty of near-future gadgetry like robots, mines, and drones. Furthermore, a new 'Overclock' system has been introduced, letting players grind levels to upgrade their gear.

Naturally, the Zombies mode is back. The survival mode offers a massive map where your choices and key tactical decisions shape the round-based flow. The goal, as always, is simple: endure as long as you can with your team. Alongside this, there is a smaller, more claustrophobic Zombie Survival map, plus the return of the fan-favourite mini-game series, Dead Ops Arcade 4.

The 'Omnimovement' system, which allows for omnidirectional dashing and sliding, is getting an upgrade. Black Ops 7 adds wall jumps and the ability to move while aiming down sights. You can even move in tandem with cover while keeping your weapon trained on the enemy. Plus, a new weapon build-sharing feature makes it a breeze to swap loadouts with other players.

Treyarch and Raven Software are co-developing this latest entry. Given that the Call of Duty series—including the previous Black Ops 6—has been accused of feeling a bit stale lately, the big question is whether this near-future pivot can inject some much-needed life into the franchise.

Black Ops 7 launches on November 14 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with full Korean language support. Pre-orders went live alongside the Gamescom showcase, with a beta scheduled for October. Pre-order customers get early access starting October 3, followed by an open beta from October 6 to 9.
