A new Pokémon title is on the horizon, where you play as a Ditto that has taken human form to master Pokémon abilities and cultivate a quaint village.

Nintendo unveiled 'Pokémon Pokopia' during the Nintendo Direct on the 12th. Billed as the first life-sandbox game in the Pokémon franchise, the title is currently slated for a spring 2026 release.

The real kicker here? You aren't playing as a trainer. Instead, you step into the shoes—or perhaps the gelatinous memories—of a Ditto that has transformed into a human. You will settle in a fresh land, living a laid-back life alongside other Pokémon. By leveraging the unique nature of Ditto, you can learn various skills from the local wildlife. Whether it is learning from Bulbasaur or Squirtle, you can cultivate greenery and nurse withered plants back to health. As you improve the environment, a wider variety of Pokémon will begin to flock to your doorstep.

The game also features staple life-simulation elements, such as gathering materials to craft furniture and tending to crops. You can even build homes for your Pokémon friends and look after them. The in-game clock syncs with real-world time, and the official trailer provided a sneak peek at some multiplayer features as well.

With a wealth of village management, social interaction, and relaxing farming activities, players are already brainstorming nicknames like 'Pokémon Forest' or 'Pokémon Valley'.

Pokémon Pokopia is set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
