The sequel to one of the few game-to-film adaptations that actually managed to stick the landing, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, has finally locked in its official title.

On the 12th, Illumination and Nintendo confirmed that the title for the new Mario film is set as 'Super Mario Galaxy,' with a global release date firmly pinned for April 3, 2026.

Super Mario Galaxy serves as the latest entry in the animated series, once again co-produced by Illumination and Nintendo, with Universal Pictures handling distribution. The 2023 predecessor, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was a massive hit—largely thanks to Jack Black’s standout performance as Bowser and a treasure trove of nostalgia for long-time fans—earning it the top spot among game-based films at the time.

The film sees Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo Representative Director Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto returning as co-producers. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back in the director's chair, with Matthew Fogel once again penning the script.

The ensemble cast remains largely unchanged: Chris Pratt returns as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. Jack Black will continue to provide the voice for Bowser. Joining the ranks, Kevin Michael Richardson has been cast to voice the character Kamek.

Meanwhile, Illumination and Nintendo have noted that further details regarding additional characters and the full voice cast will be revealed in due course.
