With the Tokyo Game Show, Japan's largest gaming exhibition, just around the corner, a massive leak has sent fans into a frenzy. It seems that a 'Kiwami' version of Like a Dragon 3—a title long criticised for its underwhelming narrative and combat—is finally in the works.

The information appeared briefly on the official Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio website before being swiftly pulled. The accidental post suggested that new product information regarding the Like a Dragon series would be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show on the 25th. Crucially, the category listed was none other than 'Like a Dragon Kiwami 3'. Given that Like a Dragon 3 has never received the 'Kiwami' treatment, it is a safe bet that this is the headline reveal for the upcoming show.

Originally launched on the PS3 in 2009 and later ported to the PS4 in 2018 with a Korean language version, Like a Dragon 3 follows the legendary yakuza Kazuma Kiryu. After settling his scores with the Omi Alliance, Kazuma Kiryu moves to Okinawa with the adopted daughter Haruka Sawamura to run an orphanage. However, Kazuma Kiryu is inevitably dragged back into the criminal underworld to protect the land from a bitter dispute.

While the game offers plenty of classic Like a Dragon content, engaging sub-stories, and the fan-favourite character Yoshitaka Mine, the overall reception was rather mixed. The consensus among players remains that the main storyline lacks cohesion, and the combat loop feels tedious due to enemies constantly blocking. Consequently, many fans have long clamoured for a remake, hoping for the same 'Kiwami' treatment that the first two entries received.

All eyes are now on the Tokyo Game Show to see if 'Like a Dragon Kiwami 3' can finally address these long-standing grievances and deliver the definitive experience the game deserves.
