As the Steam autumn sale kicks off, the top of the global charts is looking rather heavy on discounted titles. Among them, Monster Hunter Wilds has climbed the ranks following its third title update on the 29th and a first-ever 30% discount.

The third title update, which dropped on the 29th, features a collaboration with Final Fantasy 14. 'Omega', a familiar raid boss from the Stormblood expansion, makes its grand appearance as a large monster. It appears in extra missions for hunters at Rank 41 or higher, demanding a fair bit of gimmick-heavy tactical play. Once defeated, players can test their mettle in the high-difficulty event quest 'Omega Planetes Verification' for those at Rank 100 or above.

The concurrent player count, which hovered around 20,000 in September, soared over fivefold to 127,993 post-update. However, the game is currently slapped with an 'Overwhelmingly Negative' rating in recent reviews, with players criticizing the brutal difficulty of the new quest.

Reviews are scathing, pointing out that Omega’s damage output is absurdly high—leaving hunters on the brink of death after just two hits. Critics also highlight that its attack speed outpaces most hunter weapons, coupled with relentless area-of-effect attacks that leave no room for retaliation. Furthermore, many find the 'enmity' system—which focuses attacks on a single player—and the forced MMORPG-style mechanics to be a poor fit for the Monster Hunter identity, creating nothing but stress. With the gear locked behind these frustrating encounters, players feel the developers have confused 'difficulty' with actual 'fun'.

Elsewhere on the charts, 'FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles', a remaster of the classic, has landed in 4th place just a day before its launch. Baldur's Gate remains a staple in the top tier, bolstered by its consistent 25% discount.

In the top 20 for daily peak concurrent players, the new Vampire Survivors-style hit 'Megabonk' secured the 20th spot with 76,527 players. It has been a consistent high-performer in sales with a 'Very Positive' rating, seeing a steady climb in user numbers since its release on the 18th.
