Hogwarts Legacy, which explores the past of the Harry Potter universe, has been confirmed to have sold over 40 million units to date.

Hogwarts Legacy shared this news via its official X account on the 18th. This figure surpasses the 35 million units sold by Cyberpunk 2077, released in 2020, and the 20 million units sold by Baldur's Gate 3, which officially launched in 2023, highlighting the massive popularity and scale of the Harry Potter fandom.

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG released in 2023, set in the Harry Potter universe. The game follows a new student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s as they learn various spells and explore a vast world. It was first released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in February 2023, followed by PS4 and Xbox One in May, and the Nintendo Switch in November.

According to Warner Bros.' Q4 2022 earnings report, Hogwarts Legacy sold 12 million units within two weeks of its release, and it was reported that 22 million units were sold throughout 2023. It was the most-searched game on Google in 2023 and reached a peak of 800,000 concurrent players on Steam shortly after its launch.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros., the parent company of developer Avalanche Software, was acquired by Netflix on the 6th. Netflix is accelerating its game development efforts, including a partnership with FIFA to create new titles. Additionally, it is known that Avalanche Software is currently developing a sequel or a spin-off to Hogwarts Legacy.
