Actor Ryan Hurst has been confirmed to play the role of Kratos in the live-action 'God of War' series produced by Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television announced on the 14th (local time) that the main casting, including Hurst, is complete and the production is now in full swing. Pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver, and the studio has already ordered two seasons of the series.

Hurst previously provided the voice and motion capture for Thor, the God of Thunder and Kratos's formidable antagonist, in the game 'God of War Ragnarök.' His exceptional performance earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA Games Awards. Fans are particularly interested in the fact that the actor who played the protagonist's enemy in the game will now portray the protagonist in the live-action adaptation.

Standing at 197cm, Hurst left a strong impression on audiences as Opie Winston in the series 'Sons of Anarchy.' He has since appeared in numerous works, including 'The Walking Dead' as Beta and 'Bates Motel,' and most recently starred in the Netflix series 'The Abandons.'

The 'God of War' series will follow Kratos, the Spartan God of War, as he leaves his dark past behind to live in the Norse realms with his son, Atreus, and embarks on a journey to scatter the ashes of his late wife, Faye. According to the production team, the core of the story will be the evolving father-son relationship, where Kratos teaches his son what it means to be a god, while the son helps his father rediscover his humanity.

The series is executive produced and showrun by Ronald D. Moore, known for 'Outlander' and 'For All Mankind.' Moore joined the project to lead the script and production following the departure of the initial showrunner, Rafe Judkins. The first two episodes will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with participation from PlayStation Productions.
