Look, we all know that rating boards occasionally spoil the surprise for upcoming titles. But this? This is a complete disaster. A glaring security failure at the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) has leaked footage for both 007 First Light, slated for a May release, and the new Sword Art Online title, 'Echoes of Aincrad', which was due in July.
The leaks emerged over the weekend. In the case of 007 First Light, over an hour of gameplay—including what appears to be the game's finale—has been circulating online. Echoes of Aincrad didn't fare much better, with unreleased gameplay clips surfacing that feature key story cutscenes. While reports suggest Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and Castlevania: Curse of Belmont were also caught in the breach, nothing seems to have leaked publicly for those titles just yet. To make matters worse, it's reported that the email addresses of thousands of game developers were also exposed.

007 First Light is the upcoming single-player action-adventure title from IO Interactive, the folks behind the Hitman series, focusing on the origin story of James Bond. It is set to launch on May 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with full Korean subtitle support. Given the heavy emphasis on its narrative, having an hour-long chunk of the game—including the ending—leaked ahead of launch is absolutely brutal.
Rating boards inadvertently spilling the beans on unannounced games isn't exactly new. Even here, our local Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) has previously leaked titles like the Quake Remaster 1 and 2 during the classification process. However, we've never seen gameplay footage leaked to this degree. It’s worth noting that since November 30, 2023, the GRAC has implemented a 'blind service' that allows developers to request that their classification details remain private until a date of their choosing.
