The Call of Duty client, which has become increasingly bloated over the years, is finally going on a diet.

The official Call of Duty channel announced via social media on the 6th that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released as a standalone application. This is seen as a reversal of the client integration strategy that Activision pushed in 2023.

Once this separation is applied, players will need to download a fresh, individual install file for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, similar to the process during the separation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 in 2025. Legacy data remaining in existing storage will be automatically deleted to free up space, allowing users to manage their game storage more reliably.

Meanwhile, following the announcement of this separation, calls for further improvements to the Call of Duty client and the separation of the potential successor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, are growing louder.
