Ubisoft's 'Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced' (hereinafter 'Resynced') has hit the ground running with 2 million units sold at launch, though its Steam rating currently sits at a 'Mostly Positive' (72% positive).

Resynced serves as a remake of 'Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag', tracing the journey of the pirate Edward Kenway as he becomes a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. While the core narrative remains untouched, the developer has overhauled the graphics, stripped out the modern-day segments, refined the combat systems, and modernized the UI.

Given the original's acclaim, Resynced has held its ground with a Metacritic critic score of 84. Ubisoft officially announced that cumulative sales reached 2 million units on the 11th, and the game drew quite a crowd, peaking at 99,450 concurrent players on Steam.

Yet, the Steam verdict of 'Mostly Positive' (72%) feels a bit underwhelming—especially considering it dipped into 'Mostly Negative' territory at launch. Players have been vocal about technical shortcomings, including game-breaking bugs where the protagonist gets stuck in the floor or at sea, frame drops, and the controversial removal of hidden blade combat.

However, the primary source of ire among Western players is the pricing of in-game cosmetic DLC. The Resynced Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the 'Master Assassin Character Pack'. The kicker? The Deluxe Edition costs 79,000 KRW, while the collective cost of the other DLCs (excluding the base game) totals a staggering 85,400 KRW. Many users have raised eyebrows at cosmetic DLC priced higher than the game itself, calling the Deluxe Edition's value proposition rather flimsy.

To be fair, aside from the 'Map Pack' for finding rare collectibles and the 'Resource Pack' for extra cash and materials, the DLC consists purely of cosmetics with no impact on gameplay. Addressing the feedback on the Deluxe Edition, a Ubisoft developer stated, "The base game is complete in itself, including all missions, islands, the full story, and the entire world," adding, "The extra packs are entirely optional additions, not requirements to enjoy or complete the game."
