Project D1 is a tactical command RPG being crafted by Webzen's subsidiary, Webzen Crevic, utilizing the IP of the popular Naver Webtoon 'The Tyrant of Defense Games'. The development team is focusing heavily on faithfully translating the original work's unique world-building and character narratives.

To capture the pixelated aesthetic of the source material, the developers have adopted a diorama pixel art technique. This approach blends 2D pixel art with 3D spatial design to enhance depth and detail. By layering handcrafted dot graphics onto a foundation built in Unreal Engine 5, the developers have managed to visualize the descriptions from the original work with impressive precision.

The gameplay systems are designed to mirror the narrative flow of the original story. Key episodes—ranging from exploration and defense missions to territory management—have been reconstructed into party composition, tactical maneuvers, and strategic command combat. For those catching up, news of Project D1 first surfaced when Webzen secured an IP licensing agreement with Naver Webtoon last December. The original webtoon is based on a web novel about a protagonist who finishes a notoriously difficult game, only to find themselves possessed by a character within that very world. This series has been running on Naver Webtoon since 2022. Webzen plans to share more concrete details in the second half of this year, with an eye toward a 2027 release.
