CD Projekt Red's action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a film adaptation.

Entertainment media outlet Deadline reported on August 8 (local time) that Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film based on the Cyberpunk 2077 IP. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for producing the Transformers series, is joining as a producer alongside CD Projekt Red, the original copyright holder and Polish game developer.

The original Cyberpunk 2077 is an action-adventure RPG set in the fictional metropolis of Night City. Mercenary V takes center stage, brilliantly embodying the genre's signature world where mega-corporations rule society and humanity is fading away. Cyberpunk 2077 has racked up over 40 million copies sold worldwide, and the expansion Phantom Liberty has also surpassed 15 million copies in sales.

CD Projekt Red Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski quoted the aforementioned report on X on August 9, stating, "We are thrilled to partner with Paramount as a future collaborator who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise, and we look forward to sharing more details in due course."

In addition to Cyberpunk 2077, Paramount Pictures has several video game adaptation projects in the works, including a film based on Street Fighter scheduled for release in the US this October, and a Call of Duty movie directed by Peter Berg and written by Taylor Sheridan.

Meanwhile, back in 2023, CDPR announced a collaboration with US film and TV production company Anonymous Content Studios to produce live-action media. However, no subsequent reports or news have been released since, and it remains unknown whether this live-action film is a separate project.

Specific details such as the director, screenwriter, cast, and exact release schedule for the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film will be announced at a later date.
