Hideo Kojima has dropped a bombshell: South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok is officially joining the cast of the upcoming project, PHYSINT.

The news broke on the 23rd during 'Beyond the Strand,' a showcase celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions. While the event was packed with announcements regarding upcoming games and animated projects, the biggest talking point was the casting reveal for PHYSINT, the espionage-action title first teased last year. Ma Dong-seok will be joined by Charlie Fraser, known for 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,' and Minami Hamabe, who starred in 'Let Me Eat Your Pancreas,' to round out the trio of lead characters.

In a video message shown at the event, Ma Dong-seok shared some thoughts: "I have long been a fan of Hideo Kojima's work," noting that he was "deeply moved by the bold ideas and the passion for novel storytelling at Kojima Productions." Ma Dong-seok added, "It is an honour to join PHYSINT. I look forward to accompanying Kojima Productions on this new journey and will be cheering them on every step of the way."

Since its initial reveal last year, details on PHYSINT have been scarce, save for the fact that it is a new original IP. During the event, Hideo Kojima clarified that "PHYSINT is currently in the early stages of development, focusing on conceptual work and casting, and there are more cast members to be revealed beyond the three actors announced today." Hideo Kojima also showcased a new rendering of an Asian woman, admitting that "capturing the delicate texture of Asian skin was quite a significant technical challenge."

The event wasn't just about PHYSINT, either. Attendees were treated to a new trailer for 'OD-KNOCK,' a horror game that leans heavily into Hideo Kojima’s signature brand of unsettling imagery. Furthermore, the studio confirmed that a live-action film and an animated project, both set within the Death Stranding universe, are currently in production.
