The Korea Game User Association has officially petitioned the Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) regarding the 'Weka Auction House' slated for Mabinogi Mobile on December 4, arguing it potentially breaches current gaming laws and age rating standards.

DevCAT announced via an update note on November 27, 2025, that the 'Weka Auction House (Beta)' will arrive on December 4. The system allows users to trade legendary-tier fashion gear, with the highest bidder winning the item. The currency, 'Weka', is primarily obtained by purchasing 'Raw Weka Ore' from the in-game cash shop.

Historically, the GRAC has consistently assigned 'Adults Only' ratings to any game featuring user-to-user item exchanges or auction houses fueled by paid currency.

Under Article 8 of the Enforcement Rules of the Game Industry Promotion Act, games that simulate gambling or incite speculative behaviour deemed harmful to youth are restricted to adults. Lineage M, for instance, splits its service into an 'Adults Only' version with a paid currency exchange and a '12+' version without one.

Mabinogi Mobile is currently rated for 12-year-olds. The Association highlights that since limited-edition items are up for grabs, it risks overheating competitive bidding, effectively functioning as a gateway for quasi-cashing out game assets—a concern previously echoed by the Seoul Administrative Court in rulings involving titles like Lineage 2 Revolution.

The Association has demanded a clear interpretation from the GRAC on whether adding a paid-currency auction house to a 12+ rated game without a new rating application or content modification filing is lawful, and how the rating should be adjusted. Under gaming law, distributing a game with content differing from its approved version can lead to up to five years in prison or fines of up to 50,000,000 won.

Lee Chul-woo, a lawyer specialising in gaming and head of the Association, noted, "The Weka Auction House isn't just a potential ratings violation; it's drawing flak for adding a way to acquire limited-time outfits shortly after the initial scarcity marketing campaign. It looks like a double-dip scheme to incite user competition while profiting from transaction fees."
