Players of the Destiny video game series have taken collective action against the publisher, Sony, demanding the development of a sequel.

This situation unfolded following Bungie's announcement regarding the cessation of major content updates for Destiny 2. Having launched in 2017, the shooter has served as Bungie's flagship title for quite some time.

However, following the lacklustre performance of Marathon and ongoing downsizing measures, the studio's internal situation has been anything but rosy. Bungie officially confirmed on their website that while they are starting the incubation phase for a new project, the final live service content update will arrive on June 9.

With word spreading that the development team is being diverted toward Marathon, existing Destiny fans have grown increasingly anxious about the future of the series. Consequently, on the 23rd (local time), fans launched a petition via the global site change.org, urging Sony and Bungie to officially greenlight Destiny 3.

As of 2:30 PM on the 24th, the petition has garnered over 110,000 signatures and is growing at a rapid pace. It is a clear testament to the grassroots movement of players desperate to see the longevity of their beloved franchise.

Harley Casto, the user who initiated the petition, has called upon Sony and Bungie’s management to reconsider the abandonment of the IP. They highlighted that the game has been a vital medium for players to forge relationships and navigate through difficult times in their lives, aiming to remind the developers that the community's bond and the franchise's market potential remain as strong as ever.

Meanwhile, supporters of the petition have designated June 9 as a 'day of solidarity,' encouraging players worldwide to log in simultaneously as a show of strength.
