The news dropped on October 25 through the Roblox Creator Hub. According to the announcement, media feeds featuring short videos, images, and story-style posts will be strictly banned from Roblox kids and select accounts, meaning accounts for children and teenagers. This ban explicitly targets content that auto-plays, loops, or hands out rewards just for watching. The management team explained the reasoning quite sensibly, noting that "rewarding the consumption of continuous feeds of content without natural stopping points is simply not appropriate for young users."

The whole doomscrolling headache within Roblox really came to a head recently when the 'Steal an egg' mode started making waves. That particular mode featured a clever mechanic where players could ride treadmills to grind for in-game currency, but it also packed a short-form video system that let players watch media right inside the game. Rest assured, that system has since been given the chop and removed.

For the uninitiated, doomscrolling is a relatively fresh buzzword born out of the modern obsession with bite-sized video content like YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. It describes the hypnotic habit of endlessly swiping through short, punchy internet content, and it has increasingly become a stick used to beat modern media consumption habits.

Meanwhile, Roblox has been steadily rolling out child safety measures over the past few years. Back in 2024, the platform introduced messaging blocks for users under 13 alongside facial recognition age verification. On top of that, new security measures and dedicated servers tailored for children aged 5 to 15 were announced back in April.
