The South Korean esports delegation participating in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has made a smooth start by harvesting one gold medal and one silver medal in the early stages of the competition. In the fighting game category, following Street Fighter 5 at the 2022 Hangzhou Games, South Korea achieved the feat of winning the Asian Games for two consecutive times, while also adding a silver medal in Puyo Puyo Champions, which was held as an individual event.

Tekken 8 representative Bae Jae-min, Street Fighter 6 representative Yeon Je-gil, and The King of Fighters 15 representative Lee Kwang-no formed a coalition team to claim first place in the fighting game team event. This team event featured a structure where players from three different disciplines formed a single team to compete in a best-of-five match format. The average age of the three players—Bae Jae-min, Yeon Je-gil, and Lee Kwang-no—was 41.7 years old.

The South Korean fighting game team advanced to the finals in first place of Group D in the preliminaries by defeating KAZ and HKG consecutively with scores of 3 to 0. In the quarterfinals, the team defeated TPE 3 to 0, in the semifinals defeated KSA 3 to 1, and eventually subdued JPN 5 to 2 in the final match held at the Aichi Sky Expo on September 26.

In Puyo Puyo Champions, held as an individual event, Kang Dong-shin secured the silver medal. In the group stage featuring athletes from 12 countries, Kang Dong-shin defeated KAZ and HKG 3 to 0 respectively, and after a 1 to 3 defeat against JPN, advanced to the quarterfinals as the runner-up of Group A. Advancing to the finals by easily dispatching INA 5 to 0 and TPE 10 to 3 in the tournament brackets, Kang Dong-shin ultimately settled for second place after losing 2 to 10 to 11-year-old JPN player Kurihana Yuki.

South Korea has sent a delegation to nine detailed events in this tournament, including Pokémon UNITE, Honor of Kings, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile, Identity V, Gran Turismo 7, and the eFootball series. On September 27, the Pokémon UNITE tournament and Honor of Kings group preliminaries will take place. On September 28, the Honor of Kings semifinals and finals, six matches of PUBG Mobile, and the Identity V matches against Malaysia and Vietnam will unfold.
