Nintendo's legendary handheld, the Game Boy, which first hit the shelves in 1989, is getting a blocky makeover.

Lego Japan announced on the 24th that they are releasing a near 1:1 scale Lego set for adults, dubbed 'Lego Game Boy'. Pre-orders for this nostalgic piece of kit kick off on July 25th at 10:00 AM, with the official launch slated for October 1st. The set, carrying the product number 72046, will retail for 9,280 yen (tax included).

The 'Lego Game Boy' is comprised of 421 pieces. The attention to detail is impressive, featuring a D-pad, A/B buttons, Start/Select buttons, contrast and volume dials, and even a cartridge slot on the back. Once fully assembled, the dimensions mimic the original console, standing at 14cm x 9cm x 3cm.

The set also includes Lego-fied game cartridges for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario Land. You can swap between three different screen displays: the classic Nintendo startup logo and the two aforementioned titles, all rendered on the screen component.

Pre-orders are available via the official Lego online store, nationwide Lego stores, Benelic Lego Store Rakuten, Legoland Japan Resort, Legoland Discovery Center Tokyo and Osaka, and the Amazon Lego shop. Note that the official Lego online store will begin taking pre-orders slightly earlier, starting at 0:00 AM on July 25th.
