The future of EA has been clarified through a report filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The publisher officially announced its acquisition on the 29th (local time).

The investment consortium backing this acquisition consists of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), global tech investment firm Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners—the firm founded by Jared Kushner, son-in-law to Donald Trump. The deal is valued at 55 billion dollars (approx. 77 trillion KRW) and is expected to be completed between April and June of next year.

According to the staff Q&A included in the SEC filing, EA stated that it will "maintain its headquarters in Redwood City, California, and Andrew Wilson will remain in his position as CEO." Regarding concerns about restructuring and downsizing, the company replied, "There will be no immediate personnel changes, and we will focus on talent acquisition and growth to drive innovation and global market expansion." It also noted that corporate culture, including salaries and benefits, will remain unchanged.

However, this has not fully quelled concerns from industry observers. The ambiguity of the term 'immediate' has become a point of contention. EA previously conducted large-scale restructuring in April and canceled two projects in development. In February 2024, the company also laid off approximately 670 employees, representing 5% of its workforce, showing a consistent trend of tightening its belt.

Consequently, concerns regarding potential restructuring and business downsizing following this massive acquisition remain high. For instance, Activision Blizzard experienced continuous large-scale restructuring after its acquisition by Microsoft. Furthermore, as it was disclosed that 20 billion dollars of the 55 billion dollar deal is funded through loans from JPMorgan Chase, some argue that financial pressure will likely increase.

Meanwhile, CEO Andrew Wilson shared his thoughts on the acquisition via the official EA website, stating, "Our values and commitment to our players and fans around the world will remain unchanged," and added, "I am delighted to continue serving as CEO alongside our leadership team to drive our strategic evolution."
