Netflix has confirmed that Johan Renck, the director behind 'Chernobyl' and 'The Walking Dead', will helm its live-action 'Assassin's Creed' series.

The news was reported on the 23rd by Variety. Renck is a Swedish director who proved his directing prowess by winning an Emmy for 'Chernobyl'. He has continued to collaborate with Netflix through various works such as 'The Walking Dead' and 'Breaking Bad'.

According to an official announcement from Netflix last July, the main cast will feature Toby Wallace of 'Euphoria' and Lola Petticrew of 'Say Nothing' in lead roles, with Zachary Hart and Laura Marcus joining as supporting cast members. Roberto Patino and David Wiener will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, while officials including Ubisoft Film & Television's Gerard Guillemot are also listed as producers.

The main synopsis covers a secret war between a faction attempting to control the future of humanity and a group defending free will. It is expected to be a tense thriller featuring characters who determine the fate of humanity amidst historical events, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed was previously adapted into a live-action film starring Michael Fassbender in 2016, but it failed at the box office and received harsh criticism regarding its quality. Fans are now paying close attention to whether this live-action series will show a different result.
