Sony has decided to raise the price of the PS5 once again, following last year's increase. The move is attributed to economic uncertainty and a sharp rise in component costs.

On the 27th, Sony announced via its official blog that it is increasing the unit price of its devices due to ongoing global economic pressures. The company specifically cited the severe shortage of memory chips—a core component—as the primary reason for the surge in production costs. The new pricing will take effect starting April 2.

In the United States, the price of the PS5 has been set at $650 (approx. 980,000 KRW), an increase of $100. The Digital Edition is also being raised by $100 to $600 (approx. 900,000 KRW), while the PS5 Pro has jumped by $150 to $900 (approx. 1,350,000 KRW). The PS Portal, a dedicated remote play device, has increased by $50 to $250 (approx. 380,000 KRW). Similar price hikes have been implemented across major Western countries, including the UK and Europe.

In Japan, the prices for the PS5 and PS5 Pro have each risen by 18,000 yen (approx. 170,000 KRW), reaching 97,980 yen (approx. 920,000 KRW) and 137,980 yen (approx. 1,300,000 KRW) respectively. The Digital Edition has increased by 17,000 yen to 89,980 yen (approx. 850,000 KRW), and the PS Portal has been set at 39,980 yen (approx. 370,000 KRW), an increase of 10,000 yen.

This is not the first time PS5 prices have been raised. In the US, prices for all PS5 models were increased last August due to local tariff policies, and in Europe, an increase was announced back in April due to the impact of global inflation.

While domestic pricing in Korea has not yet been confirmed, there is a high possibility of a sequential increase given that prices have risen in most major countries.
