Details have surfaced for the sequel to 'A MINECRAFT MOVIE', which snagged the top spot at the North American box office last year. Titled 'Squared', the film is set to hit cinemas on July 23rd next year.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures unveiled new information for the upcoming flick at 'Minecraft Live', held during TwitchCon 2026 on May 31st. The title is 'A Minecraft Movie Squared', and key production members are returning, including director Jared Hess, who helmed the previous film, and co-writer Chris Gallant.

Jason Momoa and Jack Black, reprising their roles as Garrett and Steve respectively, are also back for the sequel. Matt Berry, who voiced the village inhabitant 'Nitwit' in the last film, will be taking on a new, yet-to-be-revealed character. Furthermore, Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst is joining the cast as Alex.

Filming is currently underway in New Zealand. In-game, a movie-themed challenge has also kicked off. Players can download a build challenge map from the Minecraft Marketplace and submit their creations. The winner will be invited to a private screening of the movie, and their work might even be featured in the film or its end credits.

New tidings for the Minecraft game itself were also announced. First off, on June 16th, the Caves & Cliffs update will introduce the Sulphur Cave biome, Sulphur Cubes, and Sulphur Cube mobs. The Sulphur Cube's properties will change based on the items it absorbs – for instance, it becomes heavier with iron or lighter with wool. Other intriguing combinations include bouncy trees and ice that reduces friction for slippery slides.

This autumn, a new forest environment called the 'Patchwork Forest' is slated for an update. This deciduous woodland will feature Poplar trees and Poplar wood blocks. A new structure, the 'Abandoned Camp', will also be revealed, with chests inside containing various treasures.
