The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) has appointed seven new members to the Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC). This move follows the expiration of the previous members' terms, with the new appointees serving for three years.

The newly appointed members are Kang Shin-wook, a lawyer at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC; Kim Kyung-tae, a professor of law at Hallym University; Lee Young-jun, a lawyer at Kim & Chang; Lim Jang-won, a professor at the Graduate School of Journalism, Semyung University; Jeong Moo-sik, a professor of Game and Animation at Gachon University; Jeong Yu-won, executive director of the Korea Entertainment Industry Association; and Ha Sung-hwa, a lawyer at Hwashin Law.

The GRAC is the body responsible for the classification and post-management of games, comprising nine members. These members are recommended by relevant organisations in fields such as arts and culture, cultural industries, youth, law, education, media, and information and communication, and are then appointed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in accordance with Article 16 of the Game Industry Promotion Act and Article 11 of its Enforcement Decree.

The MCST stated that the appointments were made after a comprehensive review of the candidates' understanding of the game industry, and their balanced perspective on youth protection and user rights. Recognising the rapidly evolving policy landscape surrounding the game industry, the ministry aimed to incorporate expertise and field experience from diverse sectors to address these changes.

Minister Choi Kyung-young commented, "Games are a prime cultural content enjoyed by the public daily, and a strategic export industry driving the overseas expansion of 'K-Culture'." He added, "I trust that, leveraging the expertise and experience of the newly appointed members, the Game Rating and Administration Committee will strive to establish itself as an institution trusted by both the public and the industry, striking a balance between user protection and industry promotion."
