The release window for both Steam Machine and Steam Frame has finally been narrowed down to this summer.

Valve took to the Steamworks page on the 5th to shed some light on the verification programme set for their upcoming hardware. The post confirms that the 'game compatibility verification programme currently used for Steam Deck will be extended to both Steam Machine and Steam Frame,' and explicitly notes that both devices are slated for a summer launch this year.

Steam Machine, the SteamOS-powered gaming hardware we first caught wind of last November, is looking to make its mark.It packs an AMD multi-core CPU and RDNA 3 architecture to push performance, supposedly capable of supporting up to 8K resolution. While it was initially pencilled in for the first half of this year, supply chain woes regarding memory and storage components back in March forced Valve to push the release to later this year.

Then there is Steam Frame, the successor to the 2019 Valve Index and the company's second VR HMD. It boasts standalone functionality, meaning no PC tether is required, and at 440g, it’s effectively half the weight of the Valve Index. Under the hood, it rocks a 2,160x2,160 resolution, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and 16GB of RAM.

However, Valve remains tight-lipped on the exact pricing for both units. Given that the price of their staple hardware, the Steam Deck, saw a hike of over 40% last May, it’s no surprise that users are getting a bit twitchy about what these new gadgets will actually cost. Best of luck, Valve.
