Riot Games is injecting a roguelike twist into its 2v2 fighting game, 2XKO, with the introduction of a new PvE mode.

Riot Games announced that the 1.2.3 patch, arriving on the 10th, will feature the 'Summit Ascent' PvE mode. It is a mode where you scale the heights, battling increasingly formidable bots while gathering augments. You can tackle it solo, or bring a mate along for some co-op action.

It is essentially a standard story-driven fighting game setup, but with a roguelike layer smeared on top. First, pick one of three difficulty levels, select your champions, and decide on your Fuse—the team-altering effect. After your first CPU scrap, you choose your path to keep climbing. Crucially, your health, liberation meter, and super meter do not reset between bouts, so if your team is looking battered, you had better find a campfire stage to rest.

When you emerge victorious, you get a choice of three 'Augments'—temporary buffs. One is always tailored for your specific champion, while the others are general upgrades. These range from stat boosts to cheeky utility perks. Take the Gold-tier 'Endless Taunt', which grants hyper armor to your taunts, or the Bronze-tier 'Butter Thief', which lets you pilfer a bit of the opponent's super meter with every successful strike.

As you climb, you will run into mini-bosses holding their own augments; defeat them to claim their power. At the very top, a boss awaits with an even more potent set of upgrades. Clearing the final boss nets you rewards like base skin chromas, avatar items, stickers, and Battle Pass XP. Even after completion, you can jump back in to crank up the difficulty or test out new synergies. Riot Games has teased that 'Summit Ascent' will continue to expand in future updates.

The new 2XKO PvE mode 'Summit Ascent' drops on the 10th. The update also brings two new champions, Senna and Thresh, alongside balance changes, new skins, and in-game events.
