The first DLC for Capcom's 2024 action title, 'Dragon's Dogma 2', has finally been unveiled.

During the June 9 Nintendo Direct, Capcom announced not only the port of 'Dragon's Dogma 2' for the Nintendo Switch 2 but also the 'Dark Arisen' DLC. Arriving on October 9, Dark Arisen promises to expand the experience with a new region called Norgan, alongside fresh equipment, monsters, narrative threads, and class-specific skills.

Dragon's Dogma 2, an open-world action RPG launched in March 2024, rode a wave of cult-classic momentum upon release. However, it faced heavy weather due to severe optimisation issues and a perceived lack of depth compared to its predecessor. Given that the original game saw its reputation salvaged by the 'Dark Arisen' expansion—which introduced punishing, endgame loot grinds—many are hopeful this DLC will serve as a similar redemption arc.

The choice of the name 'Dark Arisen' for this DLC is clearly a cheeky nod to the past, aiming to trade on that legacy. Set in a frigid, snowy landscape, the expansion introduces furry Cyclopes, ice-wielding Ice Drakes, and skeletal dragons. It also features a 'Loot Appraisal' system, mirroring the old 'Purification' mechanic where players spend Rift Crystals to cleanse cursed items—lore-wise, these are treasures left behind by the Arisen of ages past.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, expect themes reminiscent of the original Bitterblack Isle, focusing on the anguish of past Arisen and the sacrifice of beloved companions, all set against the backdrop of Norgan's tragic downfall.

Alongside the DLC reveal, Capcom announced two major updates. The first, arriving on the 10th, finally grants players the 'Infinite Ferrystone' they’ve been clamouring for, alongside improvements to movement speed and reward structures. A subsequent update in August will focus on optimising performance, refining the save system, and tweaking combat mechanics. Furthermore, the base price of Dragon's Dogma 2 will see a reduction on the 24th.
