You step into the shoes of a 'Dikaion', a figure playing a role quite similar to a prosecutor in the trials of the netherworld. The responsibility of the Dikaion involves investigating the memories left behind by the dead along the River of Lethe, combining figures and actions from those memories to reconstruct past incidents. Using these reconstructed events as concrete evidence, the Dikaion must then prove the guilt of the accused and the weight of that transgression before three judges.

The trial does not simply end with the testimony of the defendant, oh no, as a rather cheeky twist awaits you. Just when the defendant recounts their life and the memories spill forth, making the guilt seem glaringly obvious, an intervention by one of the judges right before the verdict kicks off the trial all over again. As the proceedings march on, the hidden truths the defendant tried desperately to keep under wraps begin to surface, completely shaking up your initial perception of the seemingly straightforward crime.

River of Lethe unfolds by connecting fragmented shards of memory to piece together the incidents. You must combine various memory clues—such as who was present, how many individuals were involved, and the precise sequence of events—to construct the case that proves the crime. Emphasising that there is no single correct answer even after all the truth comes to light, your final judgment will lead you directly to one of two distinct endings.

What makes the game truly stand out is its distinctive visual presentation, crafted entirely through hand-drawn monochrome illustrations and paper textures by the development team, completely avoiding any generative AI shortcuts.
