Look, let us be honest: corporate social responsibility can sometimes feel like just another PR exercise, but KRAFTON is putting a solid 351 sets of refurbished IT equipment back into the local community this year. Teaming up with the IT resource-recycling social enterprise Korea IT Welfare Association, the firm has been sprucing up retired office hardware for a second lease on life. Out of that total, 181 sets have already found homes across 33 institutions in places like Seongdong-gu, Seoul and Yongin, while the remaining 170 sets are scheduled for dispatch to the Jeonbuk region by December.

Working alongside the Seoul Welfare Council, KRAFTON recently handed over 110 sets of desktops and laptops to six social welfare organizations in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. On the 19th of last month, a proper handover ceremony took place at the Seoul Welfare Town, featuring KRAFTON CSR Team Leader Lee Jin-ho, Seoul Welfare Council Secretary General Jung Seung-wook, and Korea IT Welfare Association Operations Support Bureau Director Jung Mi-kyung, among others. Earlier, on September 28, another 71 sets of desktops and laptops made their way to 27 local children's centers and youth shelters in Yongin via the Yongin Welfare Council.

The remaining 170 sets for this year are planned to land in local children's centers located in Gimje, Jeongeup, and Jinan-gun within Jeonbuk State during December. The heavy lifting of refurbishing and distributing this gear is managed by the Korea IT Welfare Association. Once local welfare councils scope out the demand and pick the recipient organizations, the Korea IT Welfare Association steps in to supply the refreshed hardware right where it is needed.

KRAFTON has been quietly chipping away at this refurbished IT equipment support initiative since 2023. Instead of sending retired electronics straight to the scrapheap, the project repurposes them to give kids and teenagers who need digital tools a fighting chance at their studies and daily activities. Between 2023 and 2025, a total of 766 sets have been funneled into agencies across Gyeonggi, Busan, Daejeon, Seoul, and Jeonbuk. Once this year's planned batches go out, the cumulative support figure will hit 1,117 sets.

Beyond just lending a hand to local communities, the scheme is doing its bit for the planet too. Between 2023 and 2025, the total volume of recovered and recycled waste electrical and electronic equipment clocks in at 25,410 kg. According to calculation methods laid down by the Korea Environment Corporation, that translates to an estimated greenhouse gas reduction of roughly 53 tonnes.

As KRAFTON CSR Team Leader Lee Jin-ho puts it: "A single personal computer that has finished its tour of duty inside the office can turn into a tool for children to learn new things and nurture their dreams. We will keep running this initiative alongside our local community partners to push both resource circularity and expanded learning opportunities for children and youth."
