Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld currently locked in a legal battle with Nintendo, has unveiled a spin-off titled 'Palworld: Palfarm'. It is a farming simulation title that feels remarkably reminiscent of the Animal Crossing series, yet in a twist of fate, it has arrived just as Nintendo's recently announced farming-based Pokémon title, 'Poképia', has surfaced, setting the stage for yet another round of controversy due to the overlapping concepts.

The Steam page for 'Palworld: Palfarm' opened on the 23rd, showcasing a game that retains the original Palworld universe while layering on farming management mechanics. Pocketpair is handling both development and publishing. While the previous game standardized the Korean spelling of 'Pal' as 'Pael', it is quite peculiar that this new title uses the spelling 'Palworld' in its official YouTube content.

‘Palworld: Palfarm’ aims to let players enjoy farm life alongside the mysterious creatures known as ‘Pals’. Players migrate to an island inhabited by these Pals to build their dream farm. The main gameplay loop involves cultivating fields with the help of Pals, cooking, and gathering resources to expand the farm. Since multiplayer is supported, players can invite friends to share the cozy farm life, with the development of the farm resting entirely in the hands of the players.

Within the game, Pals utilize their unique talents to assist with chores. Whether it is sowing seeds, watering, or harvesting, the Pals act as reliable farmhands. While the developer has ensured that Pals can be used as a labor force, the act of 'eating Pals' is strictly off the table. The developer emphasizes a peaceful coexistence between Pals and humans, though if a Pal happens to be a bit lazy, the developer notes that players might have to remind them of the 'joy of labor'.

The island is populated by unique Pals and various residents. Players can converse daily, work together, or exchange gifts to deepen their bonds. As these relationships grow, unexpected special stories may unfold, and sometimes, the connections fostered by the Pals themselves might lead to special relationships.

The island is not without its dangers, as aggressive Pals may raid the farm or ferocious creatures may lurk underground. Defeating these threats provides resources essential for farm development. The developer describes combat as another form of 'harvesting', and with reports of a 'red harvest' appearing, the inclusion of a combat system remains a point of intrigue. In the marketplace, players can trade crops and crafted goods, with rare items occasionally appearing. A black market also exists, dealing in suspicious goods such as firearms and questionable fertilizer.

The release date for 'Palworld: Palfarm' is currently TBD, though the game will officially support Korean subtitles.
