Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on the 11th the launch of the 'PlayStation Family' service, an application designed to manage children's gaming activities entirely from a smartphone.

The 'PlayStation Family' service consolidates the parental control features previously available on PS5 and PS4 consoles. It includes a suite of tools, such as activity reports, information on the game currently being played, and the ability to approve requests for extra playtime.

Parents can create child accounts based on age-appropriate guidelines. It is possible to set daily play limits, spending caps, and restrict online communication. You can sync console usage with your family's routine—such as study, meal times, or bedtime—and apply age ratings to ensure the child only engages with content deemed suitable for their age.

Through the activity dashboard, you can see at a glance the connection status, the current title being played, and the total playtime over the last week. If the child requests more time, the parent receives a real-time notification on their mobile device, allowing the parent to approve or deny the request from anywhere.

Access to online features like voice chat or user-generated content can be toggled with precision. Furthermore, parents can manage monthly spending limits directly, supporting content purchases and downloads made via the PlayStation Store.
