The legal dispute between Konami Digital Entertainment (Konami) and Cygames, which began two years ago when Konami filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Cygames, has concluded with a settlement between the two companies. At the time, Konami claimed that Cygames' Uma Musume Pretty Derby (Uma Musume) infringed upon several of its patents.

The case began in March 2023 when Konami filed the lawsuit. In response, Cygames filed for the invalidation of all 18 patents involved in the suit. Two years later, both companies have reached a settlement, and both the lawsuit filed by Konami and the invalidation trials requested by Cygames have been withdrawn.

Konami stated, "We reached this settlement after sincere discussions with Cygames to ensure that we do not deprive users of their right to enjoy Uma Musume. We will continue to work diligently to protect the intellectual property that is the fruit of developers' efforts, while ensuring an environment where users can enjoy content with peace of mind."

Cygames stated, "We filed for the invalidation of the patents in question to respond to this lawsuit. While we are confident that there was no patent infringement, we decided to settle to resolve the dispute early and ensure an environment where Uma Musume users can enjoy the game with peace of mind for a long time."

Both sides explained that the terms of the settlement will not be disclosed due to confidentiality obligations. Finally, Konami and Cygames added that they will respect each other's content and strive to provide content and services that users will enjoy.
