Activision has stated its intention to roll out skins for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (henceforth, Modern Warfare 4) that align with the series' established identity. This declaration comes as a direct response to player sentiment, particularly following a satirical post on May 31st.

The news broke via the official Call of Duty X account on the 1st. After a user posted an image satirising the series' recent penchant for outlandish skins on the 31st, the development team replied, "We've heard the feedback." They followed up with a firm commitment: "To remain true to the Modern Warfare atmosphere, we will not be releasing comical skins from launch through all future seasons."

However,Activision made a similar pledge back in 2021, coinciding with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.At the time, the developers stated, "To ensure Call of Duty maintains its fitting identity, all future bundles and items will be designed to be appropriate for Black Ops."

Despite this assurance, Black Ops 7 did feature skins that clashed with its military theme, leading players to express scepticism about Modern Warfare 4's new promise. A chorus of cynical reactions emerged, with comments such as "Here we go again," "I've stopped expecting anything," and "Is this just an empty statement before a new game launches?"

Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 4, revealed on May 29th, is the latest instalment in the franchise. Set against the backdrop of a North Korean invasion of South Korea, the narrative follows the story of Private Park and Captain Price. It's slated for release on October 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, and will feature Korean voice acting.
