Nexon is seeing a number of its classic IPs resurrected through 'Nexon Replay,' an initiative that opens its intellectual properties to external creators. Among these, the 'Project ER' initiative for Illyria has certainly caught our eye with the recent reveal of its teaser video.

Project ER is, in essence, a remastered version of Illyria being developed by an external team under the 'Nexon Replay' banner. On June 2nd, they launched the official YouTube channel, dropping teaser videos in three languages: Korean, Japanese, and English. The 1 minute and 20 second-long video elucidates the project's aim – to 'rewind' the narrative that halted with its update suspension back in 2008 – and offers a glimpse into the gameplay currently in development.

The development team has laid out a rather ambitious schedule via their official Discord server. According to their roadmap, a first Closed Beta Test (CBT) is slated for September, exclusively on Steam, for technical demonstrations. This will be followed by a second CBT from October to November to thoroughly test the gameplay. A launch date for the open service will be determined thereafter.

Beyond Illyria, Nexon's classic game portfolio is seeing new life in several other forms. 'Everplanet' is being reimagined as an MMORPG by Rush8, the development team renowned for creating 'Arcturus.' 'Tactical Commanders' is also undergoing a remaster by the two-person indie team Cho Ga Soft, while 'The Adventurers of the Dark' is being transformed into a mobile RPG by Code Dragon, a studio specialising in pixel art games.
