이제는 길드도 다문화 시대! – WorldBoss 인터뷰

국내 시장에서 성공한 많은 게임들이 해외에서도 호평을 받으며 서비스를 세계로 확장해 나가고 있다. 테라 역시 2011 E3 게임쇼 올해 최고의 게임이란 찬사를 받았고 이로 인해 유럽과 북미 등 세계 각지에서 많은 MMORPG 팬들의 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 아직 테라는 한국과 일본에서만 정식서비스를 하고 있다. 거기다가 일본의 경우에는 외국 IP를 아예 허용하고 있지 않아 결국 많은 외국 유저들이 테라 게임을 하기 위해 한국 서버를 찾고 있는 실정이다.

그리하여 해외 MMORPG 팬들이 테라를 즐기고 싶다는 열정 하나로 무작정 한국 서버에서 게임을 시작하고 있다. 하지만 한국어를 모르는 사람이 대부분이고 키보드에 한국어 입력 자체가 불가능해 한국유저와 의사소통에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 하지만 언어의 어려움보다 더 힘든 것은 일부 한국유저에게 ‘투명인간 취급 받을 때’ 라고 한다. 이런 군중 속의 고독을 극복하고 다양한 국적을 가진 사람들이 한국서버에서 살아남기(?)위해 만들어진 길드가 바로 ’WorldBoss’ 다. 그렇다고 외국인만 받는 것이 아니라 영어를 배우고 싶어하는 한국사람도 종종 볼 수 있어 ‘게임 하면서 영어를 배울 수 있는 길드’로 서버 게시판을 통해 적극적인 홍보를 하고 있다. 이에 테라 게임메카에서 조심스레 인터뷰를 요청하였고 흔쾌히 수락해 주었다.

자국의 게임보다 한국의 테라를 선택한 이유와 한국사람들과 같이 서버 게임 하면서 느낀 점 등 WorldBoss 길드원들의 솔직 담백한 답변을 들어보자.

Many games which enjoyed domestic successes have also received favorable reports from abroad, expanding their services worldwide. Among them is TERA. TERA was awarded the title "the best game of the year" at E3 game show this year and ever since has attracted global attention from MMORPG players in many places including Europe and North America. Moreover, as the game`s Japanese client does not allow access with foreign IPs, many other international users seek Korean servers.

Hence the existence of a not little number of foreign users who are playing in Korean servers. What they have in plenty is their unrelenting zeal for the game. However, as many of them neitherunderstands Korean at all nor do they have keyboards that could type in Korean, these seekers from abroad cannot communicate with their Korean counterparts. What are more daunting, they say, are "invisibility" Korean users conferred on them. And so it came to pass that "WorldBoss" came in to existence, with aim of helping foreign users from across the world survive in Korean servers. But the guild takes under its wings not only international users but also domestic ones, who want to learn English in a playful setting. And so its active appeals to users throughout forums as "the guild that helps you learns English while playing game." This time Game Meca contacted its members for an interview and they most kindly answered our questions.  

Now let`s hear the honest answers from the members of "WorldBoss" to our questions such as "Why did you choose TERA over other games?" "How do you find Korean players?"

Xaira : 반갑다. 캐나다에 살고 있는 Xaira이고 골수 마법사 유저다. 마법사 캐릭터만 2개 보유하고 있지만 케스타닉 여성으로 마음을 굳히고 지금은 이 캐릭터만 육성하고 있다.

biscuit : 아일랜드에 살고 있고 술 취하기엔 좀 이른 시간이다. 현재 사제 캐릭터를 육성하고 있고 정령사와 비교하며 연구하고 있다.

Irie : 만나서 반갑다. Irie이고 말레이시아 사람이다.

Kingdom : 난 중국 사람이고 오픈베타때부터 지금까지 계속 테라를 해온 유저다.

Luth : 아일랜드 사람이다.

Irie : hello, I’m Irie, from Malaysia, nice to meet you

Xaira : 원래 아이온을 했었다. 아이온이 지겨워지면서 새로운 MMORPG를 찾고 있었고 친구가 마침 테라를 소개하여 시작하게 되었다. 게임의 첫 인상은 별로였는데 지금은 좋다. 다른 온라인게임을 할 때도 주로 마법사 캐릭터를 하기 때문에 테라에서도 마법사를 선택했다. 테라에서 마법사 캐릭터는 다른 게임보다 더 재미있다.

Royal : 친구 중 한 명이 테라 베타서비스를 하게 되었는데 그 친구를 통해 알게 되었다. 친구가 테라 영상을 보여줬을 때 뭔가 새롭다는 느낌과 함께 다른 온라인 게임과는 다를 것이라고 생각했다. 그 후로 지금까지 5개월째 게임을 즐기고 있다.

Chibi : 친구 jayzz와 함께 오랫동안 아이온을 즐겼다. 어느 날 jayzz가 TERA의 논타겟팅 시스템이 흥미 있어 보인다며 같이 시작하고 제의했다. 처음엔 그다지 재미있어 보이지 않았지만 테라의 그래픽에 매료되었고(아이온과 비교해서) 논타겟팅 시스템도 흥미롭고 재미있다고 느꼈다.

kingdom : 테라는 출시 전부터 알고 있었고 오픈 베타 테스트 때부터 지금까지 즐기고 있다. 처음엔 중국인 유저의 기대와 반응이 좋았지만 지금은 많은 중국인들이 그만 두었다. 하지만 난 테라의 논타겟팅 시스템과 그래픽이 마음에 들어 여전히 즐겁게 게임을 하고 있다.

jayzz : 친구를 통해 테라를 알게 되었다. 처음엔 친구와 유럽에서 서비스 하는 아이온을 즐기고 있었다. 하지만 아이온은 너무 장비 위주의 게임이라고 생각했다. 그렇게 새로운 게임을 찾던 중 테라를 알게 되어 시작하게 됐다.

Irie : 원래는 마비노기 영웅전을 하던 유저였다. 마비노기가 지겨워 질 때쯤 우연히 테라 영상을 보게 되었고 엘린이 너무 좋아서 시작하게 되었다.

Biscuit : MMORPG 열혈팬이라 여러 가지 게임을 해보는 편이다. 전에는 C9과 드래곤네스트를 했었고 테라도 출시 전부터 알고 있었다. 이 게임은 힐러 클래스가 뛰어나다고 생각한다. 다른 게임에서 힐러는 파티원의 체력게이지만 보고 있으면 된다. 하지만 테라는 화면 전체를 봐야 해서 더욱 재미있다. 퀘스트도 재미있게 했고 중형 몬스터 사냥을 위해 파티플레이도 하면서 만레벨을 달성했다. 또한 인터페이스, 그래픽 등 여러 가지 면에서 다른 MMORPG보다 뛰어나다고 생각한다. 정말 재미있다.

Xaira :  I was tired of Aion and Wanted another MMO that is more action, packed. And my friend told me about TERA. I looked at it first and didn’t like it, until I tried it. I knew I would be a sorcerer in TERA is a lot more fun than most sorcerers I played in other MMORPG

Royal : a friend of mine was playing beta and told me about it. Showed me some videos on it and it interested me. Looked fresh, unlike most of the other MMORPG around. Been here going on 5 months now.

Chiibi : I was playing Aion for a log tiem with Jayzz. He was talking about that he wants to play tera because of aiming system. With the first look I thought I want like it but since I saw videos I wanted try it. Graphics in an MMORPG are important for me. So after aion I was afraid. But graphics here are much better and the aiming system really good.

Jayzz : I learnd this game from a friend of mine. We were playing Aion EU together and just hot bored of gear based MMORPG so here I am

Irie : Started to get interested from videos and live streams. I was bored of mainogi Heroes so I decided to try it out and because of being able to play as an Eiln. So here I am, still here

Biscuit : me than any other game so far I’ve played, it’s all looking at screen instead of HP bars which is a lot of fun. Unlike others, to many to list really. Visuals and game play id say, ye that’s basically it. Questing is ok but id ghappily party level on bams till 58. So much fun they are

 

Irie : 한국 드라마, 스타크래프트 때문에 알고 있었다. 스타크래프트 팬이어서 경기를 자주 본다. 사람들도 착하고 한국 음식도 맛있다.

Royal : 보아!

Luth : 예전에 한국을 방문한 적이 있는데 사람들이 정말 좋았다. 한가지 무서운 점은 운전을 너무 험하게 한다. 한국은 그래픽 좋은 게임을 잘 만든다.

게임메카 : 해외에서 테라는 많이 알려진 게임인가?

Chibi : 모두가 기다리고 있다.

Jayzz : 독일에서 유명하다.

Irie : 말레이시아에서는 모르는 사람이 많다.

Xaira : 캐나다도 테라를 잘 모른다. MMORPG 팬들은 WOW, Aion 이야기를 더 많이 한다. AOC(에이지 오브 코난) 이야기도 종종 하는 편이다. 테라 이야기는 거의 못 들어 봤다.

Luth : 네덜란드에서도 그다지 유명하지 않다.

Irie : 아일랜드에선 MMORPG 마니아조차 테라를 모르는 사람이 많다. 아일랜드에선 출시예정이 잡히지 않거나 광고를 하지 않는 게임에 대해선 사람들이 관심조차 주지 않는다.

Royal : 북미/유럽 출시가 다가오면 해외 많은 사람들이 알게 될 것 같다.

Chiibi : yes!! Everyone is waiting for it

Irie : In Malaysia : NO

Jazz : in germany : yes

Xaira : in Canada, not really. It’s not advertised a lot

Luth : In Netherlands not really

Irie : they don’t even know TERA. They don’t care for things that did not or are advertised to come out

Xaira : well, among MMO fans here, they still talk about WOW or Aion and sometimes AOC, but not really about TERA

Royal : It’ll probably be more well known closer to release date

한국 테라의 정보를 영어로 번역하여 헤외 유저들에게 전달하는 것 뿐만 아니라
벤트릴로 서버도 제공하고 있어 WorldBoss길드 외에도 많은 해외 유저들이 이용하고 있다.

Xaira : 한국어를 잘 못해 영어를 쓰는 길드를 찾게 되었고 자연스럽게 길드에 있게 되었다. 예전에는 ‘Benny Lava’, ‘Flawlessm’, ‘Empress’ 3개의 외국인 길드가 있었는데 합쳐지면서 현재의 ‘WorldBoss’가 되었다.

Royal : ‘Empress’ 외국인이 만든 길드가 아니라 원래는 한국인이 만든 길드였다. 영어를 잘하는 한국이 많아서 외국인도 자연스럽게 많아졌던 길드다.

Luth : 나 역시 한국어를 몰라서 외국인 길드를 찾다가 이 길드에 가입하게 되었다.

Irie : Eylon, Terafans(북미 테라 포럼)을 통해 엘리온 서버에 외국인 길드가 있다는 것을 알게 되어 가입하였다.

Royal : 많은 외국인들이 북미 테라 포럼을 통해 WorldBoss길드에 가입하는 것으로 알고 있다.

Xaira : well, an English-speaking guild makes it easier as I don’t know a lot of Korean. I originally joined benny Lava, and then Flawless and then Empress, Which became WorldBoss. That’s how I ended up in this guild, but I made some cool Korean friends along the way

Royal : yea Empress was Korea guild originally

Luth : I have joined this guild because I don’t understand Korean so an English speaking guild is very helpful

Irie : joined after seeing it as the English speaking guild in Elyin when checking terafans website. (terafans is an English tera fan site. It’s a forum)

Royal : most people join from there the guild usually gets remade though coz people come/go a lot

 

Royal : 장녀랑 같이 게임을 하면 (장녀가 못해서)죽는다.(웃음)

Xaira : ‘카이아의 속박’ 아이템이 구현되기 전, 레벨 42 중형몬스터 사냥 퀘스트를 진행하기 위해 파티를 구하고 있었다. 하지만 파티 구하기가 너무 힘들어서 ‘저는 한국을 사랑합니다’를 두 시간 동안 외쳤던 기억이 난다. 다행이 좋은 한국유저를 만나 무난히 진행 할 수 있었다.

Biscuit : 같이 파티하고 있던 한국인이 파티장을 넘겨달라고 말했지만 (한글을 읽을 줄 몰라) 실수로 추방시켰던 일이 기억에 남는다. 정말 미안하게 생각하고 있다.

Irie : 사령술 연구소 인스턴스 던전에서 파티원들과 KPOP에 대해 재미있게 이야기를 나눴던 기억이 난다. 파티원들은 소녀시대를 싫어했다. 한국인 대부분이 자신은 영어를 못한다고 이야기 하지만 실제로 대화해 보면 영어를 잘하는 사람이 많다.

Royal : playing with jang(Public Relations), gets you killed(Laughter)

Xaira : I stayed in one day, for 2 hours, by the level 42 medusas, and I kept saying “I love Korea^^” for 2 hours, to get party to help me with the campaign. That was before bombs were added to the game

Biscuit : I can’t remember how many times I’ve tried to promote a Korean in party to leader and accidentally kicked him/her. Tell him to say I didn’t mean it

Irie : joined a party with Koreans for 42 instances, in the end it became discussion about K-POP in the middle of the run. Oh and they didn’t like girls generation. A lot of Koreans that say they don’t know English usually speak it good

 

Xaira : (외국인 이라는 이유로 추방당하는 일은)매일 경험하는 일이다.

Chibi : 파티에서 한국인 두 명이 우리가 영어를 사용한다는 이유만으로 파티 탈퇴를 하였다.

Kingdom : 중국인이란 이유로 자주 추방을 당한다. 한국사람은 중국인을 싫어하는 것 같다.

Xaira : yes, all the time

Royal : everyday

Irie : I had the experience that 2 people left from group because we weren’t talking Korean

Xaira : usually 99% of the time, I get in a Korean group and I say “hi” and I get kicked. To try and avoid it, I say hi in Korean instead, but after a while. I get kicked anyway

Kingdom : jing chang you zhe zhong shi, han guo ren bu xi huan zhong guo ren
(I often deported as per the Chinese because they were. Koreans hate the Chinese)

Biscuit : most groups I’ve been I find outside the instance and ask politely if they need me. Using the dungeon finder works not my choice

Biscuit : then they realize straight away and there’s no confusion. With dungeon finder I think it’s a surprise to the Koreans to join a party that’s not their language initially. I have used it successfully but I prefer not to be honest

 

Irie : 특별한 방법은 없다. 그냥 추방하지 않는 파티를 찾기 위해 노력한다.

Chibi : 주로 친한 한국지인을 통해 파티에 들어간다.

Xaira : ‘몽니’, ‘장녀’에게 번역을 부탁하여 한국어로 파티 모집창에 글을 올린다. 그러면 내가 파티장이니 쫓겨날 일은 없다.

Kingdom : 한국사람은 모든 중국유저가 오토인 줄 알고 있다. 그래서 중국인 이라는 걸 가급적 숨기려 한다. 일부로 영어를 쓰거나 미국인척 하면 중국인이라고 밝혔을 때보다 추방당하는 횟수가 적다.

Biscuit : 파티모집 창에 영어로 모집 글을 쓰면 지원이 거의 오지 않아 파티매칭이 힘들다. 그래서 주로 인스턴스 던전 입구 앞에서 내가 필요한지 영어로 물어본다. 그렇게 파티를 하거나, 또 다른 방법으로 한국 시간으로 밤늦은 시간이나 새벽 시간 등 파티원을 구하기 힘든 시간에 4명이 모인 파티를 주로 지원한다. 그러면 대부분은 받아준다. 파티에 들어가서 한국어를 못한다고 하고 웃으면 다들 대타 구하기 힘들어서 그런지 묵묵히 진행한다.

Royal : 파티원 중 영어를 조금이라도 할 줄 아는 한국이 있으면 추방 당하는 경우가 적다.

Irie : Not really, I just keep finding other parties but most of the times when that happen, the next party is usually better

Luth : in all the groups I’ve been in I didn’t kicked out because I can’t speak Korean

Chiibi : I usually have a friend. That is Korean so he talking with the other members

Xaira : I will say that these days, I try to have KP and jang translate stuff for me and make parties, that way, I rarely get kicked

Kingdom : shi de, you shi shuo shi mei guo ren. Han guo ren cong shi ren wei zhong guo ren du shi you wai gua
(Korean be treated auto all Chinese. preferably, I hide the fact that Chinese. English is used deliberately. When pretending to be American gets hit less forced to leave)

Biscuit : when it’s late at night in Korea and evening time here and we have a party with 4 people and need 1, then i.d use the finder. The people that join then. Kind need the run and won’t leave. Just tell me simply we ain’t Korean and smile

Royal : the better English they speak the less chance we get kicked

Biscuit : true that

 

Biscuit : 파티장 위임하려다 잘 몰라서 추방했던 한국유저에게 사과하고 싶다.

Royal : 우리를 쫓아내지 않고, 기회를 주는 모든 한국유저에게 감사하다고 말하고 싶다.

Irie : 파티에서 추방당해도 한국을 사랑한다!

Xaira : 진심으로 테라가 번창하길 바라고 북미/유럽에도 진출하여 동, 서양 모두 성공하길 빈다.
